Photography is My Full-Time Job, Not My Hobby.
When people say "You’re a photographer? Isn't that more of a hobby?" - this just makes me cringe. It just breaks my heart when people don't realize how much work goes on behind the scenes. Most people earn thousands of dollars each month working to support their families— and my work is no different. Photography is my career and I also have those yucky life bills to pay like everyone else. I also hear people say “Photography is SO expensive.” Yes it can be! Yet, we often don’t blink at a $200 hair appointment. It’s really a matter of perspective and priorities. I just wish more people knew all the details that go into my daily routine and could look at value more than the price tag of the photography business. As a business owner, I run every aspect of my business - paperwork, ordering supplies, scheduling sessions, advertising, taking photos, editing, constant email and phone correspondence, etc. Additionally, photographers have educational and overhead expenses just like any other professional. The only difference between what I do and what most other's do is that I don't get paid by the hour. When I started my business, I did so many free and discounted sessions as a way to get my name out there and attract business. This was essential to start my business, but in that first year, I spent 3X what I earned on business expenses. This took a toll on me personally as well as my family. As with any business, the first year or two is the hardest financially, but over time its an invaluable investment and I don’t regret it for a minute. I am so blessed to be able to have my dream job and work from home! It is my hope that over time people begin to understand that there is so much work that goes on in a photographer's lifestyle that is often overlooked. I have the absolute greatest clients in the entire world and they make all my sacrifices worth it! I want to thank each and every one of you for always supporting my business and following along as I continue to grow! I work hard to make sure my pricing is always fair and competitive—- and even a little humble. Photography is my passion and providing you with beautiful images that you will treasure for the rest of their lives is such a blessing!
